Dawkins a Bronco?

Even though this story has yet to actually be confirmed, if it is true, it will be the most heartbreaking, slap in the face the Eagles organization has ever provided to Eagles fans. And they have provided quite a few. I'm not going to re-hash everything about Dawkins which makes him possibly the most beloved Eagle ever. Football is a business, and the player and the team have to do what is best from a business perspective, I get all that. But if this happens, it is complete bullshit. In a situation like this, I feel like the Eagles are obligated to give Dawkins a little more money to keep him with this team, and keep him with this organization. More information will be coming on this situation shortly, and although it doesn't look good, lets hope that Dawkins is flying to Denver to tell them no thanks.

Profootballtalk.com reported late Friday night (2/27) that the Dawkins to Denver deal is done. If so, it is indeed a slap in the face, complete with brass knuckles, to not only the fan base but to Dawkins himself. Rumor has it that Dawk was looking for a bit more than the one-year deal Team Gold Standard was offering, a fact that Banner & Reid knew perfectly well when the first offer was made. Speculation is that B&R thought they could take advantage of Dawk's strong desire to stay in Philly and that he'd consequently take the bait. So once again we all pay the price for the smug arrogance of the Lurie brain trust. Yes, Dawk's career is closing down wherever he plays, but last season proved that especially in Philly he can still be a productive player and invaluable leader. I just don't think his fire will burn as intensely in Denver, which will be sad for pro football in general. It's also the case that the Broncos will be coming to the Linc this season -- in light of this news, that could turn out to be a very interesting spectacle! Both Dawk and Buckholter deserve our best wishes -- Lurie, Banner, and Reid not so much...
P.S. But thank God that bum Considine is heading south!
