"Some Like it Hoth" recap

Last night’s episode was Miles-Centric, and now that it is confirmed that Miles is Pierre Chang’s son, there is an obvious question. Was Miles born on the island and does that explain his "power"? We find out a little bit about Miles’ life before he came back to the island, but other than the visit from Naomi and then Bram, it was basically meaningless.

On the island it was pretty stupid especially with Kate messing everything up. Kate is way slicker than that, she has lied her way out of things her whole life and now she can’t lie to a drunk Roger (Uncle Rico)? And then Jack tries to intimidate him with what? Threatening to never act on TV again? Can Matthew Fox promise not to do anything after Lost? I would like that, because I cannot stand him or his character. Seriously, what actor with no good lead cinematic roles ever tell anyone he is not acting on TV again. Who does he think he is? I think Sayid on a shitload of LSD should come in slow motion and scalp Jack like Daniel Day Lewis in the Last of the Mohicans. One cool thing on the island is the slug-like construction of the Swan Station. The season finale is called The Incident, and we all know the incident was at Swan, and that is the reason the button is pushed ever 108 minutes. I was drinking some Peroni out of my Swan Dharma pint glass and wearing my Star Wars PJ’s last night watching Lost. Hurley’s Star Wars references were funny, but some were slightly incorrect, probably on purpose. This world would be great without Ewoks, Jar-Jar Binks and Matthew Fox.

The ending with Faraday back should be interesting, in two weeks (damn you Damon and Carlton, you promised no weeks off, what the shit?) the new episode seems to be Faraday-centric and we should learn about where he has been - possibly in Ann Arbor with DeGroots?

So in all seriousness, theories about last night mainly are about Bram and his crew. Who does Number 2 work for? We saw him last week surprise the hell out of us with Illana and ask, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?” This week off the island after Naomi (Number 10 on our hot ladies of lost list) asks him to work for Widmore, Bram abducts Miles, like Will Ferrell in Old School. “You tell anyone about this and I'll fucking kill you. I'm kidding, I'm kidding, we'll have him home by midnight.” So last week I assumed this was Widmore’s Kahana II. That is now obviously not true. Now it can be one of two groups. If this new group works for Ben, would he really have killed one of the main players, Caesar? I mean technically he would kill anyone, even his own daughter, but I just don't think they work for Ben. Maybe they are some type of group that is the remaining members of dharma and want to regain control and research on the island. Maybe they are not hostiles or Dharma and they are a group that wants to protect the original "purpose" of the island's powers.

Lost "Dead is Dead" Theories/Review

We find out a good amount about Ben (post-purge). We see his abduction of Alex and quarrel with Widmore that leads to Charles leaving the island. Surprising to see how recently Charles was kicked off the island. Danielle came to the island around ‘88, and Alex looked to be 4-5 years old on the swing (during this scene) so that would make it around ‘92-‘93 when Widmore left the island. We hopefully soon will have a Widmore centric episode to learn more about his rise to power with the Hostiles and getting knocked off by Ben. Widmore will probably only get more and more important as the series winds down. Seeing Penny still alive was nice. I think this is one of the first times this seasons that the obvious answer (Aaron going to Ms. Littleton and Eloise Hawking being Faraday’s mom) was not true. Does Ben have a soft spot for the innocence of a child? He didn’t kill Danielle, because of Alex and it seemed that he paused when little Charlie appeared, giving Desmond enough time to beat him up? Ben obviously was not happy with the way he was raised, and was always upset that he didn’t have a mother, so it seems like he does not want any of these children to grow up motherless. Is the scene at the dock over? Do Desmond and family just quickly sail off? That should be interesting. The ending with Ilana and crew was interesting. Were they hired by Widmore? Possibly they were all separately hired and that riddle about the statue was their way of finding out who is on their side? If this is true, why wait until now? Why not kill Ben right away? It also seems that the sickness that Danielle’s crew got by going under the temple could have also been contracted by them also. Were they talking for the island?

Is Locke actually the Smoke Monster?

Locke is actually dead, but the smoke monsters’ biggest trait is its ability to change into the form of people who are dead on the island. Could the "Locke" we saw all episode really been the smoke monster. The same question can be asked of the Christian we have always seen. Both Locke and Christian came to the island in a coffin, and were dead when they got on their respective flights. Locke did know exactly where the temple was and the “home” of the smoke monster and has never been there before. The episode was titled, “Dead is dead,” meaning Locke is dead. The Locke we saw is just the monster in Locke form. Notice that you never saw the monster as Alex and Locke in the same place. A few more incidents to help prove this theory: The smoke monster appeared as Yemi, Eko’s brother, before killing Eko. When Richard visited Locke when he was 5, Richard noticed Locke’s drawing of the monster attacking a person (thanks Lostpedia).

Lost: "He's Our You" Is Young Ben Dead?

Really we could recap "He’s Our You" but really all we should discuss is the last scene. Is Young Ben alive or dead? Here is a recap of our theories on both sides:

Dead: 1977 Ben is dead. Without Ben, there is no purge. That is why when Sun and Lapidus were in the barracks, dharma pictures were hanging up on the wall. This can potentially change everything. Without Ben, Widmore doesn’t get into a power struggle with him and leave the island, so now would 2007 Widmore be transported to the island? Doubtful. How do they explain everything that could change? There has to be some sort of rules here if he is dead. That is why I think ‘07 Ben is alive for now. Sun just hit him with an oar. He looked way worse than that when Illana showed him to Locke. Maybe he still has the bullets lodged in him.

Alive: Ben has to be alive, because Sawyer and Juliet saved Amy's life in their version of 1977. Amy then gives birth to Ethan. Ethan was alive in 2004 when the plane crashed before the losties ever go back to 1977. This means that when they crashed in 2004, Sawyer had already saved Amy's life so that Ethan could be born. For a while I was thinking about Lost as two separate linear timelines, in which the 1977 one directly and instantly effects the 2007 one, but I was wrong. They are on the same time line and in 2007 no matter what is done in 1977, it has already been done before they got on that plane. Sayid shooting young Ben is going to be just like when Michael tried killing himself. Sayid could shoot Young Ben 100 times and he will live. Sayid just is not aware of the rules. Both Pierre Change and Daniel Faraday spoke of rules with time travel and when Ben and Widmore met they discussed how they cannot kill each other, probably due to these rules also. Jack is going to save 1977 Ben in next week’s episode. That's why Ben had to get Jack to go back, because he knew it already happened and Jack had to be there to save him. And that is also why Sayid ended up on the plane because he had already shot Ben and no matter what he did, he was going to end up back on the island in 1977. Jack is a doctor and would ultimately help anyone in any situation. He thinks he is a strong and self-thinking man, like Sawyer and Sayid, but when it comes down to it, his biggest struggle in life is that he is always questioning himself and will do anything to fix every situation and prove to everyone he is a great man. If he gets the chance, he will try to save Ben's life again. You can't change the past, and what we are seeing now is just stuff that has already happened.

Lost "Namaste" Recap/Theories

Recap of Namaste:

Too much talking about things that don’t matter and lame attempts to try to give the viewers an "oh snap!" moment, but falling well below LOST standards. Who cares about the baby being Ethan? Ok, so it was Ethan, big deal. Jack sucked like he always does. Great to see LaFleur own him. We have all been waiting a while for that to happen. It will be interesting with what they will do with Sayid’s storyline. Next episode it looks like he is freaking out. Is he acting as a hostile? Is he trying to kill young Ben?

Radzinsky’s character sucked, but developing the Swan station was good to see. We hope that the writers show more of the original idea of the Swan and how it came to be. Young Ben at the end was one of the only cool parts of the episode, and it took almost an hour to get to it. Second highlight was Hurley commenting on Jin’s English.

In the present time, Sun knocking out Ben, explaining how he was in the make shift hospital last episode and her and Lapidus showing up in the Barracks. At the Barracks, they meet Christian Sheppard and find out the 4 missing people on Flight 316 are in 1977. They will have to explain why Sun was the only alive 815’er on 316 not to flashback to 1977. That does not seem to make sense, but what in Lost does? They should have a good explanation to it shortly (hopefully!)

It seems to me that after lying to viewers (saying that Lost would run straight with no reruns or weeks off), they better come back with a knockout episode. This was nowhere near that.

Theories:

The only interesting thing about learning that Ethan was the baby, is how does he end up rebelling against his parents/Dharma and going with the hostiles? Does he participate in the purge? Does Ben save him?

The reason Sun did not “flash” to 1977, was because she was already on the island in 1977. We know Ben is on the island in 1977, and I'm not sure where Lapidus falls in to this, but that would make sense on why those 3 did not “flash.” Maybe the baby we saw Pierre Chang take care of in Episode 1 of Season 5, was Sun and not Miles as we originally assumed.

Since Horace's son is Ethan, and Sun's father is possibly Chang, maybe hostiles like Widmore somehow kidnapped Sun and Ethan when they were kids. Widmore has done a large amount of business with Mr. Paik, possibly this relationship began or flourished with Widmore giving Sun to Paik?

When Lapidus and Sun get back to the main island, the barracks are a mess. After the purge, the barracks were taken over by the hostiles. Not until Keamy started blowing up stuff at the Barracks while looking for Ben, were those living quarters not occupied. That was at most 3 years ago. Looking at them, it did not look like a former warzone from 3 years ago. It seemed to have been empty for decades. Has something been done in the past to change the future?

Faraday is no longer on the island; if he were dead Sawyer would have said he was dead when Jack asked. So Faraday left the island sometime in between 74-77. That Faraday goes and does research on time travel at Oxford, has a nervous breakdown after he destroys Theresa’s life. He then moves to America and watches flight 815 goes down again. This explains why he starts crying. He knows that the future cannot be changed, so he again gets recruited for the freighter and lives it completely over again. The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham Review/Theories

It was very interesting to see Locke come back to life on the island. Since he took the place of Christian Sheppard on the 815 flight, could Christian have been resurrected also and that is why Jack saw his father on the island in the first season? The only thing against this theory is that Christian Sheppard seems to show up and leave as if he were a ghost (on the island, in Jacob’s Cabin, on the Freighter, by the wheel…). When Locke got back to the real world, he was back to being a complete chump again, not being able to convince anyone to come back with him, and having to be transported around in a wheelchair. While on the mainland, Walt told Locke that he keeps having dreams about a group of people killing Locke. Could it be the passengers of Flight 316, who think Locke is nuts for saying that he has been on the island and Ben killed him?

Widmore had a camera in Tunisia right where you end up when you turn the wheel. He had to find out this location after Ben turned the wheel, because the camera was not there at that point. It was interesting to find out that Abadon works for Widemore, and Abadon is a guy who gets people where they need to go. Somehow, Widmore knew flight 815 was going to crash and had Abadon become an orderly in the hospital in order to make sure Locke ended up on the island. Is Widmore good or evil? The show brings us back and forth constantly on who has the islands best interest, Widmore or Ben.

It would seem like Ben would know how to go back and forth from the island, hasn’t he done it multiple times before? I'm thinking that pushing the button in the hatch controlled the island from moving in time. The island was stuck in one place and Ben knew the exact coordinates to take boats and submarines back and forth. After the hatch imploded and the wheel was turned, there were completely new coordinates and Ben didn't know them. Ben had no idea how to get back to the island, until he heard it from Locke. Once he had the information he needed, he had no reason to keep Locke alive. Ben has tricked and held the island hostage this whole time. He had a power struggle with Widmore, won and exiled Charles back to the “real” world. Ben claimed he could hear Jacob (while running the island), but when Jacob tells Locke to help him, Ben gets jealous because he could never hear Jacob and attempts to kill Locke.

316 passengers crashed on the separate small “zoo” island that Jack, Kate and Sawyer were held captive in Season 3. Lapidus took a boat to go to the main island. They said he went with a woman, but who was the woman? At first thought, the only woman unaccounted for that was on the plane was Sun, but was Sun on the place when it crashed, or did she flash off like Jack, Kate, and Hurley? When Locke was talking to the girl (Ilana), they clearly were looking at the main island only about 1/2 mile away. A question I have is when are the 316ers? Are they in the 70’s along with everyone on the island before the crash and the 5 original cast members who were also on 815, or are they still in 2008? The only reason I think they are in 2008 is because there was a flash and Hurley, Jack, Sayid, Kate, and Sun vanished. Caeser mention he saw Hurley vanish. It is just like when the island was skipping or when the wheel is turned.
