Will Ferrell on Man vs. Wild

When Man vs. Wild first came, I thought it was the coolest show ever. Bear Grylls was insane in a great way. Then it came out that he secretly stayed in hotels and some things were staged. This took away most of the greatness of the show and I really have not watched it since. Now word has come out that in early June, Will Ferrell will appear with Bear for an episode. This is exciting news, although Will Ferrell's movies are not as funny as they used to be, he should be hilarious when conversing with Grylls. More to come when the air-date of the episode is announced.

"Some Like it Hoth" recap

Last night’s episode was Miles-Centric, and now that it is confirmed that Miles is Pierre Chang’s son, there is an obvious question. Was Miles born on the island and does that explain his "power"? We find out a little bit about Miles’ life before he came back to the island, but other than the visit from Naomi and then Bram, it was basically meaningless.

On the island it was pretty stupid especially with Kate messing everything up. Kate is way slicker than that, she has lied her way out of things her whole life and now she can’t lie to a drunk Roger (Uncle Rico)? And then Jack tries to intimidate him with what? Threatening to never act on TV again? Can Matthew Fox promise not to do anything after Lost? I would like that, because I cannot stand him or his character. Seriously, what actor with no good lead cinematic roles ever tell anyone he is not acting on TV again. Who does he think he is? I think Sayid on a shitload of LSD should come in slow motion and scalp Jack like Daniel Day Lewis in the Last of the Mohicans. One cool thing on the island is the slug-like construction of the Swan Station. The season finale is called The Incident, and we all know the incident was at Swan, and that is the reason the button is pushed ever 108 minutes. I was drinking some Peroni out of my Swan Dharma pint glass and wearing my Star Wars PJ’s last night watching Lost. Hurley’s Star Wars references were funny, but some were slightly incorrect, probably on purpose. This world would be great without Ewoks, Jar-Jar Binks and Matthew Fox.

The ending with Faraday back should be interesting, in two weeks (damn you Damon and Carlton, you promised no weeks off, what the shit?) the new episode seems to be Faraday-centric and we should learn about where he has been - possibly in Ann Arbor with DeGroots?

So in all seriousness, theories about last night mainly are about Bram and his crew. Who does Number 2 work for? We saw him last week surprise the hell out of us with Illana and ask, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?” This week off the island after Naomi (Number 10 on our hot ladies of lost list) asks him to work for Widmore, Bram abducts Miles, like Will Ferrell in Old School. “You tell anyone about this and I'll fucking kill you. I'm kidding, I'm kidding, we'll have him home by midnight.” So last week I assumed this was Widmore’s Kahana II. That is now obviously not true. Now it can be one of two groups. If this new group works for Ben, would he really have killed one of the main players, Caesar? I mean technically he would kill anyone, even his own daughter, but I just don't think they work for Ben. Maybe they are some type of group that is the remaining members of dharma and want to regain control and research on the island. Maybe they are not hostiles or Dharma and they are a group that wants to protect the original "purpose" of the island's powers.

Top 10 Ladies of "Lost"

Yesterday, the writers of Kotite's Corner were discussing the episode "Dead is Dead" when Mr. Green commented on how good the character Alex now looks. This spiraled into the longest KC debate ever. So we decided to publish our findings - the hottest female ever on Lost. We had a rule that you had to appear in at least four episodes, so you were not just a one time guest-star (sorry Bai Ling fans). We came up with a list of all female characters who were in four or more episodes. Each contributor came up with their top ten with first place getting 10 points. We did have a tie, broken by more first place votes.

Overall Rankings (First place votes)

Lost "Dead is Dead" Theories/Review

We find out a good amount about Ben (post-purge). We see his abduction of Alex and quarrel with Widmore that leads to Charles leaving the island. Surprising to see how recently Charles was kicked off the island. Danielle came to the island around ‘88, and Alex looked to be 4-5 years old on the swing (during this scene) so that would make it around ‘92-‘93 when Widmore left the island. We hopefully soon will have a Widmore centric episode to learn more about his rise to power with the Hostiles and getting knocked off by Ben. Widmore will probably only get more and more important as the series winds down. Seeing Penny still alive was nice. I think this is one of the first times this seasons that the obvious answer (Aaron going to Ms. Littleton and Eloise Hawking being Faraday’s mom) was not true. Does Ben have a soft spot for the innocence of a child? He didn’t kill Danielle, because of Alex and it seemed that he paused when little Charlie appeared, giving Desmond enough time to beat him up? Ben obviously was not happy with the way he was raised, and was always upset that he didn’t have a mother, so it seems like he does not want any of these children to grow up motherless. Is the scene at the dock over? Do Desmond and family just quickly sail off? That should be interesting. The ending with Ilana and crew was interesting. Were they hired by Widmore? Possibly they were all separately hired and that riddle about the statue was their way of finding out who is on their side? If this is true, why wait until now? Why not kill Ben right away? It also seems that the sickness that Danielle’s crew got by going under the temple could have also been contracted by them also. Were they talking for the island?

Is Locke actually the Smoke Monster?

Locke is actually dead, but the smoke monsters’ biggest trait is its ability to change into the form of people who are dead on the island. Could the "Locke" we saw all episode really been the smoke monster. The same question can be asked of the Christian we have always seen. Both Locke and Christian came to the island in a coffin, and were dead when they got on their respective flights. Locke did know exactly where the temple was and the “home” of the smoke monster and has never been there before. The episode was titled, “Dead is dead,” meaning Locke is dead. The Locke we saw is just the monster in Locke form. Notice that you never saw the monster as Alex and Locke in the same place. A few more incidents to help prove this theory: The smoke monster appeared as Yemi, Eko’s brother, before killing Eko. When Richard visited Locke when he was 5, Richard noticed Locke’s drawing of the monster attacking a person (thanks Lostpedia).

Lost: "He's Our You" Is Young Ben Dead?

Really we could recap "He’s Our You" but really all we should discuss is the last scene. Is Young Ben alive or dead? Here is a recap of our theories on both sides:

Dead: 1977 Ben is dead. Without Ben, there is no purge. That is why when Sun and Lapidus were in the barracks, dharma pictures were hanging up on the wall. This can potentially change everything. Without Ben, Widmore doesn’t get into a power struggle with him and leave the island, so now would 2007 Widmore be transported to the island? Doubtful. How do they explain everything that could change? There has to be some sort of rules here if he is dead. That is why I think ‘07 Ben is alive for now. Sun just hit him with an oar. He looked way worse than that when Illana showed him to Locke. Maybe he still has the bullets lodged in him.

Alive: Ben has to be alive, because Sawyer and Juliet saved Amy's life in their version of 1977. Amy then gives birth to Ethan. Ethan was alive in 2004 when the plane crashed before the losties ever go back to 1977. This means that when they crashed in 2004, Sawyer had already saved Amy's life so that Ethan could be born. For a while I was thinking about Lost as two separate linear timelines, in which the 1977 one directly and instantly effects the 2007 one, but I was wrong. They are on the same time line and in 2007 no matter what is done in 1977, it has already been done before they got on that plane. Sayid shooting young Ben is going to be just like when Michael tried killing himself. Sayid could shoot Young Ben 100 times and he will live. Sayid just is not aware of the rules. Both Pierre Change and Daniel Faraday spoke of rules with time travel and when Ben and Widmore met they discussed how they cannot kill each other, probably due to these rules also. Jack is going to save 1977 Ben in next week’s episode. That's why Ben had to get Jack to go back, because he knew it already happened and Jack had to be there to save him. And that is also why Sayid ended up on the plane because he had already shot Ben and no matter what he did, he was going to end up back on the island in 1977. Jack is a doctor and would ultimately help anyone in any situation. He thinks he is a strong and self-thinking man, like Sawyer and Sayid, but when it comes down to it, his biggest struggle in life is that he is always questioning himself and will do anything to fix every situation and prove to everyone he is a great man. If he gets the chance, he will try to save Ben's life again. You can't change the past, and what we are seeing now is just stuff that has already happened.

Lost "Namaste" Recap/Theories

Recap of Namaste:

Too much talking about things that don’t matter and lame attempts to try to give the viewers an "oh snap!" moment, but falling well below LOST standards. Who cares about the baby being Ethan? Ok, so it was Ethan, big deal. Jack sucked like he always does. Great to see LaFleur own him. We have all been waiting a while for that to happen. It will be interesting with what they will do with Sayid’s storyline. Next episode it looks like he is freaking out. Is he acting as a hostile? Is he trying to kill young Ben?

Radzinsky’s character sucked, but developing the Swan station was good to see. We hope that the writers show more of the original idea of the Swan and how it came to be. Young Ben at the end was one of the only cool parts of the episode, and it took almost an hour to get to it. Second highlight was Hurley commenting on Jin’s English.

In the present time, Sun knocking out Ben, explaining how he was in the make shift hospital last episode and her and Lapidus showing up in the Barracks. At the Barracks, they meet Christian Sheppard and find out the 4 missing people on Flight 316 are in 1977. They will have to explain why Sun was the only alive 815’er on 316 not to flashback to 1977. That does not seem to make sense, but what in Lost does? They should have a good explanation to it shortly (hopefully!)

It seems to me that after lying to viewers (saying that Lost would run straight with no reruns or weeks off), they better come back with a knockout episode. This was nowhere near that.

Theories:

The only interesting thing about learning that Ethan was the baby, is how does he end up rebelling against his parents/Dharma and going with the hostiles? Does he participate in the purge? Does Ben save him?

The reason Sun did not “flash” to 1977, was because she was already on the island in 1977. We know Ben is on the island in 1977, and I'm not sure where Lapidus falls in to this, but that would make sense on why those 3 did not “flash.” Maybe the baby we saw Pierre Chang take care of in Episode 1 of Season 5, was Sun and not Miles as we originally assumed.

Since Horace's son is Ethan, and Sun's father is possibly Chang, maybe hostiles like Widmore somehow kidnapped Sun and Ethan when they were kids. Widmore has done a large amount of business with Mr. Paik, possibly this relationship began or flourished with Widmore giving Sun to Paik?

When Lapidus and Sun get back to the main island, the barracks are a mess. After the purge, the barracks were taken over by the hostiles. Not until Keamy started blowing up stuff at the Barracks while looking for Ben, were those living quarters not occupied. That was at most 3 years ago. Looking at them, it did not look like a former warzone from 3 years ago. It seemed to have been empty for decades. Has something been done in the past to change the future?

Faraday is no longer on the island; if he were dead Sawyer would have said he was dead when Jack asked. So Faraday left the island sometime in between 74-77. That Faraday goes and does research on time travel at Oxford, has a nervous breakdown after he destroys Theresa’s life. He then moves to America and watches flight 815 goes down again. This explains why he starts crying. He knows that the future cannot be changed, so he again gets recruited for the freighter and lives it completely over again. He is in Groundhog’s Day the lost edition

The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham Review/Theories

It was very interesting to see Locke come back to life on the island. Since he took the place of Christian Sheppard on the 815 flight, could Christian have been resurrected also and that is why Jack saw his father on the island in the first season? The only thing against this theory is that Christian Sheppard seems to show up and leave as if he were a ghost (on the island, in Jacob’s Cabin, on the Freighter, by the wheel…). When Locke got back to the real world, he was back to being a complete chump again, not being able to convince anyone to come back with him, and having to be transported around in a wheelchair. While on the mainland, Walt told Locke that he keeps having dreams about a group of people killing Locke. Could it be the passengers of Flight 316, who think Locke is nuts for saying that he has been on the island and Ben killed him?

Widmore had a camera in Tunisia right where you end up when you turn the wheel. He had to find out this location after Ben turned the wheel, because the camera was not there at that point. It was interesting to find out that Abadon works for Widemore, and Abadon is a guy who gets people where they need to go. Somehow, Widmore knew flight 815 was going to crash and had Abadon become an orderly in the hospital in order to make sure Locke ended up on the island. Is Widmore good or evil? The show brings us back and forth constantly on who has the islands best interest, Widmore or Ben.

It would seem like Ben would know how to go back and forth from the island, hasn’t he done it multiple times before? I'm thinking that pushing the button in the hatch controlled the island from moving in time. The island was stuck in one place and Ben knew the exact coordinates to take boats and submarines back and forth. After the hatch imploded and the wheel was turned, there were completely new coordinates and Ben didn't know them. Ben had no idea how to get back to the island, until he heard it from Locke. Once he had the information he needed, he had no reason to keep Locke alive. Ben has tricked and held the island hostage this whole time. He had a power struggle with Widmore, won and exiled Charles back to the “real” world. Ben claimed he could hear Jacob (while running the island), but when Jacob tells Locke to help him, Ben gets jealous because he could never hear Jacob and attempts to kill Locke.

316 passengers crashed on the separate small “zoo” island that Jack, Kate and Sawyer were held captive in Season 3. Lapidus took a boat to go to the main island. They said he went with a woman, but who was the woman? At first thought, the only woman unaccounted for that was on the plane was Sun, but was Sun on the place when it crashed, or did she flash off like Jack, Kate, and Hurley? When Locke was talking to the girl (Ilana), they clearly were looking at the main island only about 1/2 mile away. A question I have is when are the 316ers? Are they in the 70’s along with everyone on the island before the crash and the 5 original cast members who were also on 815, or are they still in 2008? The only reason I think they are in 2008 is because there was a flash and Hurley, Jack, Sayid, Kate, and Sun vanished. Caeser mention he saw Hurley vanish. It is just like when the island was skipping or when the wheel is turned.

Hollywood's Squares

Few Things I Noticed About the Oscars Last Night:

I have never been so attracted to somebody as thick as I am Beyonce. Seriously, her thighs lead me to believe that she could give Shaq a hard time in the post. I don’t care though, tree trunk thighs and all, that lady is like the parking ticket I got over the weekend; shes got fine written all over her.

I am seriously considering quitting my job and making a living betting on the Oscars every year. Unlike any sports, there are locks in Oscar betting. Yes, the odds are ridiculous, but there was absolutely zero chance of Ledger, Wall-E, Boyle or Slumdog not winning. You do have to risk a lot to win a little, but it is the only time I have ever made bets that I KNEW would win.

The actors need to get liquored up at the Oscars like they do at the Golden Globes. The Oscars are about 100 x more important than the G squareds, but they are also 100 x less fun to watch. Why? Because at the Globes, the actors get plastered, and watching drunk actors is much more fun than watching Will Smith give out awards for best makeup and costume design. It was much more fun watching a hammered Mickey Rourke (who should have won last nite) say “balls” 35 times and get flipped off by Darren Aronofsky.

How cool is Hugh Jackman?

Kate Winslett is hot. That is a real woman. You can ogle over your Jessica Alba’s and your Cameron Diaz’s all night, but when push comes to shove, I want a woman like Kate. Energetic, fun, humble, and won’t have to take a bathroom break after ever course during a date to throw up whatever it was she had just eaten. My affection for her is, admittedly, enhanced by the money I won money on her beating Streep for Best Actress.

Enough with the 100 thank you’s during acceptance speeches. Seriously, thank people on your own time. When you get up there, say something inspiring and memorable. America is watching and doesn’t care if you owe all of your success to your third grade gym teacher. Best Speeches of the night: Penelope Cruz and the dude who won for writing Milk. At least that guy didn’t just get up there and talk. He actually had something to say.

Finally, and I mean this with all my heart, trim the ceremony down to 2 hours, and only include the major awards. The art awards and the short film awards should be given away at a much smaller ceremony, with the only people invited being the nominees and their mothers. After all, they are the only people who care about those categories. Ok I lied, most of their mothers probably don’t give a damn either.

If there were a Best Actor Oscar for sports, who do you think would win? Id give the five nominations to:

Gus Johnson: The guy cant get a full time job with a major network, yet when assigned to do play-by-play sporting events like WNBA games and KC Chiefs games, you would still think by hearing him that you are watching the 1980 Olympic Hockey game when we beat the Commies. He really makes us believe that the games mean something, and isn’t that what acting is all about?
Manu Ginobili: For his acting performances in over exaggerating every bit of contact every time he drives to the hoop. He is the Jack Nicholson of sports: Always overacting but still oddly convincing.
Lance Armstrong: This is the winner for me. He has done such a great job acting like such an incredible guy that people don’t even take a second to think that odds are, he has done more PED’s than Arod and Bonds combined.
The Chicago Cubs Front Office: Every year, the whole organization gives an incredible performance in making it look like they have finally done what is necessary to make their club a championship-caliber team. Even though they fail every year, they have been able to convince the naïve Cub’s fans for 100 straight years that this could be the year the curse ends. And even after 100 years of it not happening, they are such good actors that people in Chi town still have hope.
Venus and Serena Williams: For their performance in making people believe that they are women.

I feel kind of guilty for not sharing my money Oscar picks with everyone, because you all could be swimming in cash today. Therefore, I will work extra hard to pick winners this week. For tonights games:

Hollywoods picks so far: 6-3

Tonight, I’m rollin with:

Clippers/Warriors over 228

Seriously, will there be any defense played in this game at all?

Knicks –6.5

Very respectable team at home, and they match up well with Indy.

Tennessee Martin

If you want to win big bucks, you have to bet on no-name schools like Tenn Martin sometimes.

Lost- Review of 316

Last night’s episode opened with Jack on the island, waking up just like in the pilot episode. Lost, so far this season has been amazing. My only complaint is that the answers they are giving us at times seem obvious, whereas in previous seasons, I was always confused and I was loving every minute of it. Last night’s episode started a lot of questions that should be answered sooner rather than later.

Why was Ben bloody by the dock? My first thought is that he got Widemore back by killing Penny. Could Penny really cause that much harm to Ben? If Desmond was on the boat, only one man comes out alive and no way are they killing off Desmond. He is too important to the show. If Penny is now dead, it should make an interesting team of Widemore and Desmond seeking revenge on Ben.

Who did Kate give Aaron to? Right away I thought it was to Claire’s mom, Carole. Kate seemed pretty upset and did not want to talk about it, to the point where you may believe that Aaron was not given up, but rather taken. Did Ben get to her? Did he threaten the life of Jack and/or Sawyer if she did not give up Aaron and come on the plane?

How/Why was Sayid arrested and why was he being transported to Guam? This had to be setup by someone working with Ben. No way this is a coincidence. Did his handler, Ilana, end up on this island also? How about Caesar, who offered Jack his condolences and who Hurley told to buckle up. If these two characters whom we were introduced to make it to the island and no one else on the plane does, why them? Was one of the six in physical contact with them during the flash? What happens to the plane? Does it crash in 2008 or in the 70’s? Does it continue its flight plan missing the seven passengers flashed to the island?

Jin was wearing a Dharma uniform in the 70’s and found Kate, Jack, and Hurley on the island. When Locke turned the wheel below the Orchid, the island must have stopped skipping through time leaving the rest of the islanders stuck in the 70’s. They adapted by joining Dharma (for now) until Locke came back with the Oceanic 6. This also can explain Faraday helping construct the Orchid in the 70’s.

Interesting to see where they go from here.

American Idol?!? We talking about American Idol?

I cannot believe I am writing an article about the subject of American Idol. What is wrong with me? Five years ago, before I started dating my wife, I would have laughed at the thought of even watching American Idol. I am such a music snob. I like to think my knowledge of music and its history is in the 99th percentile. All of this being said, I am married, so control over the TV is a constant battle in my house. Let’s be realistic, I’ve got no hand. I am just trying to set the stage on how/why I am watching this show and about to write an article about it. In all seriousness, if you see me on the street, slap some sense into me.

American Idol is a well-oiled machine. It cannot be stopped. Sites like "Vote for the Worst," and stars like Howard Stern cannot stop it. They blatantly market Coke-a-Cola and laugh all the way to the bank. Their ratings are Super Bowl-like. I have finally found a dent in their armor.

Generally, the esteemed judges of Idol provide the American viewers like my mom the ability to call in and vote 100 times per night for their favorite of the top 12 contestants. Normally, out of those 12, only 6 are really good and have a chance to become a pop star. Always looking to expand the empire and milk their sponsors for more money, Idol has broken the final 36 contestants into 3 groups and allowed America to vote the final 12 onto the next round, instead of the judges making that decision. Normally the 36 to 12 process picked by the judges is a week’s worth of episodes. They are now stretching the process out over the course of a month.

Last night, the first group of 12 was on television. It was awful; the diluted product was worse than the karaoke show I see on weekends at Yakitori Boy in Philly (by the way that place is fun, but run by morons, good luck getting them to keep a reservation or be intelligent in any sort of way). I hope ratings will go down, so in future seasons that I will be watching, because I am married and a bitch, I do not have to suffer through America voting on the final 36. It is in excess and the product was way worse than it already is.

Review of Lost "Jughead"

is this a young Ms. Hawkings?

I really enjoyed last night’s episode; I think it proves that Ms. Hawkings is Faraday's mom. I am worried that with Desmond bringing Penny and Charlie (how awesome was that) to LA, there is a possibility that Ben will kill Penny. If that happens, I imagine that Desmond will be on Widmore’s side against Ben. I think with Desmond it kind of shows that even with his redemption he still reverts back to his original self. Desmond had opportunities to be with Penny before he crashed the boat on the island and his honor always got in the way. He finally found her again and feels he has to do this. Before it caused him to lose her, will it again?

Widmore was the star of this episode in terms of learning more about him. He funded Faraday’s research on time travel for ten years. Finding out Widmore was a Hostile was shocking to me. I love the idea. I think Richard had Widmore to be the next in line to be leader; he might have been for a few years, until Richard found Ben, possibly exiling Widmore (hence Widmore always saying it used to be my island). Also Ellie who held the gun to Faraday while he looked at the H-bomb, we think she is Mrs. Hawkings. It would make sense, because currently off the island, she’s about the same age as Widmore and Mrs. Hawkings knows a lot about the island, which makes me believe that she had to be there. It was cool when they tied in the loop of why Richard visited Locke when he was born. With the "you cannot change time" theory that Faraday has, that is why Locke picks the wrong item, because if he picked the right one, he would have left with Richard and would have never been on the plane. When Ben visits Widmore at the end of season 4 warning him he is going after Penny, Widmore has a bottle of scotch and says he has been sleeping next to it since the dreams started happening. Could these be new memories from the past (like Faraday and Desmond) that he is waking up with?

Lost tonight at 9 PM EST “Jughead”

Lost began their 5th season last week with a double episode. These are observations by the Kotite’s crew:

The first of two episodes showed Daniel Faraday in a dharma uniform assisting in the construction of the Orchid station. How is this possible?Does he not age like Richard? Or has he mastered the time travel aspect of the island and is back there for another reason, maybe to stop something from happening? The next item to discuss is why the others do not skip through time with the 815 crew, the Freighter crew and Juliet. This is confusing. Sawyer was banging on the door of the hatch for a while trying to get the Desmond in the past (who does not know him) to open up. Faraday instructed Sawyer and crew to go back to the beach since Desmond would never answer the door, since they did not know each other back then. The crew leaves for the beach and Faraday begins to knock on the door. Desmond answers the door and has no idea who Faraday is. Was Faraday lying to everyone, or was Faraday able to get Desmond to answer because Faraday and Desmond are each other’s constant? Faraday asked Desmond to go visit his mother in Oxford and that the rules do not apply to him. Desmond wakes up in the present with a new memory and tells Penelope that they have to go to Oxford.

It will also be interesting to see how Locke aka Bentham gets off the island while it is skipping. Also is he really dead, when Ben and Jack see him in the casket? Far out theory is the spider venom that paralyzed Nikki and Paulo in season 3 that lead them to be buried alive. Going back to Locke, he is really everything in this series. According to Richard and what we have seen so far, he needs to leave the island and die back in the states so that the Oceanic 6 can go back to the island.

Mrs. Hawkings has only appeared in Desmond flashback. Now with the ending of the second episode, it seems that Ben works for her. We have two theories about her. She also does not seem to age like Richard and Faraday. We believe she is related to one of them, probably one of their mothers. Since Desmond is going to Oxford to meet Faraday’s mom, we should know soon which one it is.

Lost- coming back January 21, 2009

This is our first of many Lost posts. We are huge fans of Lost at kotite's corner. This is a weak preview, you do not see much, but the countdown begins.

Giada De Laurentiis

A lot of people know who Rachael Ray is. However, not a lot of people are very familiar with Ray’s much more talented, extremely hotter fellow Food network star, Giada De Laurentiis. Kotite’s Corner would like to give Giada the credit she deserves.

Giada De Laurentiis is the host of a few Food Network shows, most notably “Everyday Italian.” She also hosts a show where she travels to different locations called “Giada’s Weekend Getaways.” Giada was born in Italy, and is known for her Italian dishes she cooks up. All of that information is great, as we are definitely happy that Giada has become a Food Network star. But the most important thing about Giada that often gets overlooked, is that she is extremely hot. In fact, when she first appeared on the Food Network, the channel received e-mails and letters accusing them of putting a model or actress pretending to cook on television to boost ratings.

Kotite’s Corner would like to recognize Giada De Laurentiis as an official hottie. Enjoy.

THUMBS UP to Michael Strahan. The former Giant joined an already crowded desk on FOX pre-game show this season. And the gap toothed sack master has fit in quite nicely. He has the natural feel like he’s been doing it for years. That’s a lot more than can said for Tiki Barber. And special props to Strahan for predicting that Giants WR Domenek Hixon would score a touchdown. Less than 4 minutes into the game, Hixon had his 6 points.

THUMBS DOWN to Kimbo Slice. The street fighting internet sensation took it on the chin on Saturday night…or more appropriately, the eye. The headliner for CBS’ EliteXC lasted only 14 seconds against a fill-in opponent with pink hair. Slice never even threw a punch. Kimbo’s fighting career may have also been KO’d in the process.

NO THUMBS for the TBS broadcast trio who called the Phillies-Brewers series. Brian Anderson, a Brewers announcer during the regular season, teamed with TBS regular Joe Simpson and Braves closer John Smoltz. The three didn’t leave a lasting impression, but then again, the series itself wasn’t exactly edge-of-your-seat material.

Grades for the Gridiron Gurus:

Brent Musberger & Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN/ABC): Hands down, the best broadcasting tandem calling football games today. Musberger is a legend. He has made some memorable calls over the years. And just hearing his voice means the game you are watching carries importance. Herbstreit, the former quarterback who could still pick up co-eds on any college campus, has a way of exhibiting his vast football knowledge without coming off as a know-it-all. Grade: A

Greg Gumbel & Dan Dierdorf (CBS): This isn’t even the top team over at CBS, but they should be. Gumbel is quite possibly the most underrated football announcer out there. His calls are always spot on, and his energy matches the flow of the game. Dierdorf is a nuts and bolts analyst who has never tried to be anything he’s not. He breaks down the game the same way he played it. Tough and to the point. Grade: A-

Mike Patrick & Todd Blackledge (ESPN): While Musberger and Herbstreit are calling the headline college football game on ABC, Patrick and Blackledge make the call for sister station ESPN’s primetime affair. Patrick, who was solid in his former role on Sunday Night Football, is even better on the college game. Blackledge, who you can tell just loves college football when he speaks, is a very insightful color man. Although Blackledge’s weekly “Taste of the Town” segment may be a tad much. Grade: B+

Chris Fowler, Jesse Palmer & Craig James (ESPN): You may be getting the idea that I’m a big college football fan, but they simply have better broadcasters than the pros. This trio, who call games on Thursday nights, are a great compliment to each other. Fowler is a seasoned pro while Palmer is a solid up-and-comer who will probably get bigger assignments in the not-to-distant future. It is hard to have a three man booth that doesn’t trip over each other, but this is that group. Grade: B

Jim Nantz & Phil Simms (CBS): The AFC’s top game gets called by this duo. They’re not bad, but they’re not great either. Nantz is a terrific golf announcer and is good on college basketball. But football is a distant third. Simms, whose hair is still stuck in the 70s, often seems like he’s trying too hard. And he loses points for his All-Madden rip-off Iron Man Awards. Grade: B-

Joe Buck & Troy Aikman (FOX): The so-called “A” team of FOX’s NFC package, Buck and Aikman are only slightly better than average. Buck lacks enough enthusiasm to be calling premiere football games. His style and delivery are much more suited for his natural sport of baseball. Aikman is a solid analyst, but often times gets repetitive in his analysis. Not to mention, he loses points for being a Cowboy. Grade: C+

Al Michaels & John Madden (NBC): John Madden is a groundbreaker in the world of football analysis. He was followed by a laundry list of wannabes who couldn’t match the original. But isn’t his schtick getting a tad tired? The answer is yes. Michaels calls a good game, but he just oozes arrogance. Grade: C

Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski & Tony Kornheiser (ESPN): Ron Jaworski may be an upgrade from Joe Theisman, but the compliments for this team end there. Tirico is not ready for primetime. And Kornheiser brings less than nothing to live football. It’s a shame because he is terrific in his role on PTI, but his doofus approach to the broadcast booth is annoying. Grade: D

Kenny Albert, Moose Johnson & Tony Siragusa (FOX): Kenny is a lesser version of his brother Marv. Moose is a lesser version of Aikman. And as for Siragusa, I just want less of him.Grade: D-

Pam Ward on college football (ESPN): No offense to women, but Pam Ward does no favors for female sportscasters of the world. Her manish voice—and look—are more suited for WNBA coverage. Grade: F

THUMBS UP to Lee Corso. The elder statesman of ESPN’s College Gameday actually went against the crowd and picked a winner. The former coach, who’s mascot head gear picks usually fire up a crowd, went against the thousands of Georgia co-eds and picked Alabama. Corso drew boos for donning the elephant head of Big Al, but he looked like a genius when the Tide rolled the Bulldogs later that night. Kudos to Corso.

THUMBS DOWN to Fox Sports. When the Phillies clinched their second straight NL East title, the winning call was made by Tim McCarver. The bland former catcher—who infuriatingly kept mispronouncing Carlos Ruiz’s name—was all alone in the broadcast booth when Jimmy Rollins saved Brad Lidge’s perfect season. His call lacked the fun or excitement that Harry Kalas or even Tom McCarthy would’ve had. It just doesn’t seem fair that the local broadcasters who follow this club all season long are relegated to the radio when National TV comes rolling in.

THUMBS UP to the return of The Amazing Race. The best reality show is back for another trip around world. Before you lump this show in as “just another reality show”, give an hour and I guarantee you’ll be back every Sunday night for more.

Top Fictional Seinfeld Movies

The show Seinfeld has given us so many classic moments and memories from all of their great seasons. We decided to make a list of the best fictional movies referenced in the show.

1. Rochelle Rochelle – The tagline pretty much says it all - “A young girl’s strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.” How can you honestly go wrong with a movie like that. Kotite’s Corner maintains that if this were made into a real movie, it may be one of the greatest of all-time. This movie is mentioned multiple times in multiple episodes. George rents the movie in the episode “The Smelly Car” and hides from Susan the fact that he rented it. The video ends up costing George $95 when it is stolen from Jerry’s car because the window was left open to air out the BO. This movie was so popular, it was made into a Broadway musical, starring Bette Midler. Elaine sums up the movie, and men in general best, when she states, “Men will sit through the most boring pointless movie if there’s the slightest chance a woman will take her top off.” Any man who says they have not done that before is a liar.

2. Chunnel – Another movie which is mentioned in a few episodes. The name of the movie comes from the plot, which involves an explosion in the Channel Tunnel. The plot also involves the President’s daughter being trapped in the Chunnel between England and France. Jerry is unable to follow the plot, and discusses with Elaine in the movie theater, which causes Susan to get angry and break off her friendship with Elaine. The tagline for the movie reads “Chunnel: 32 Miles of Hell.”

3. Sack Lunch – Sack Lunch first appeared in the episode “The English Patient.” This movie was released the same day as the English Patient, and Elaine’s desire to see Sack Lunch is ignored by her boyfriend, who insists on seeing The English Patient. Elaine eventually sees the movie by herself, and later, while travelling to Tunisia, Elaine is happy to hear that the in-flight movie is Sack Lunch. Elaine wants to see the movie to see if the people on the poster for the movie were shrunk down, or if it is just a giant sack. The film is a reference to comedies which have large commercial appeal, however bad critical responses, as opposed to movies such as The English Patient, which earn large critical acclaim and Oscar nominations, but have little popular influence.

4. Death Blow – This is a film that appeared in the episode “The Little Kicks.” After Jerry finds out that Kramer’s friend Brody is bootlegging the movie, he talks to Kramer outside the theater. When they hear a loud explosion, Kramer yells “Ah man, we’re missin’ the death blow!” They both run back into the theater. Jerry bootlegs the movie, and becomes a bootlegging legend. The tagline for Death Blow, delivered by Kramer is, “Death Blow: When someone tries to blow you up, not because of who you are, but for different reasons altogether.”

5. Cry Cry Again – Also seen in the episode “The Little Kicks,” this movie is described as an “arty movie.” Kramer bootlegs it after Jerry refuses to do so, and is seen laughing hysterically in the theater while watching it. Elaine tapes over the movie with her dancing, and when Jerry and Kramer are forced to give the bootleg copy to Brody, they say that when observing the film, “You cry, then you see the dancer, and you cry again.”

6. CheckMate – Appears in the episode “The Movie” and is about chess and intrigue. Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer all try to meet up to see the movie together, but due to a series of problems, 3 out of 4 of them end up watching Rochelle Rochelle independently. While in the movie theater, you heard the following Oscar-worthy dialogue come out of CheckMate—
Larry David: I didn’t know you enjoyed chess, your majesty.
King: Why wouldn’t I?
Larry David: Because the king is always in jeopardy.
King: Yes, but it’s only a game.
Larry David: (suspiciously) Yes, of course…. only a game.
That’s gold.

7. Prognosis Negative – This film is mentioned in many Seinfeld episodes. In the episode “The Dog,” George and Jerry go to the movie originally, and Jerry hates it, but does not tell Elaine he went and saw it. Jerry is then forced to go see the movie at a later point with Elaine. Prognosis Negative is supposedly about a man who receives a negative result on a medical test, which he mistakenly believes to be a bad thing.

8. Firestorm – This movie is mentioned in a few episodes, and is a blockbuster action film, starring Harrison Ford. Jerry mentioned at one point Harrison Ford “jumped out of the plane and was shooting back up at them while he was falling.” An “underwater escape” is also mentioned as having taken part in the movie. Because George just got engaged, Susan does not want to see the movie, and George is forced to go see The Muted Heart instead. After the movie, George sees Jerry discussing how great the film was with another person, as Firestorm was let out at the same time. In the episode “The Rye,” Firestorm starts an argument between Mr. Ross, and Frank Costanza, and Mr. Ross begins talking about it at a dinner party, and Frank Costanza yells that he hasn’t seen it yet, and likes to go into a movie fresh.

9. Flaming Globes of Sigmund – The movie appears in the episode “The Heart Attack,” when Jerry wakes up from a dream about a sci-fi film, and scribbles on a piece of paper “Like flaming globes of Sigmund.” He thought it was funny at the time, but spends the rest of the episode trying to figure out exactly what it means. Jerry turns on the TV and finds Flaming Globes of Sigmund on, with the dialogue, “It’s just as you prophesied. The planets of out solar system, incinerating. Like flaming globes, Sigmund. Like flaming globes. Ah ha ha ha..” (Voice of Larry David).

10. The Other Side of Darkness – This movie appears in the episode “The Comeback” and is a direct-to-video release about a female coma victim and her husband. The film is very long and ends with the coma victim regaining consciousness. Kramer rents the movie and the movie impacts him greatly. He visits a lawyer to deal with the possibility of being in a coma. He then sees the end of the movie, at which point he revokes his living will. He goes to the lawyer, however, the lawyer is at his tennis lesson. When Kramer goes to the tennis club, a ball machine is mistakenly turned and ends up firing at Kramer’s head at top speed, putting Kramer in the hospital. While Elaine is visiting, she looks for an outlet for the VCR, and pulls a giant plug. Kramer wakes up and thinks that his plus has been pulled.
