Continuing the Tradition that Harry Started...
Harry Kalas will always be in our memories. Every baseball game we watch, we will always think of Harry Kalas. What better way to keep the baseball announcing tradition that Harry started here in Philadelphia, than to reach out to Harry’s son, Todd Kalas, to become the next announcer for our Phillies. Todd Kalas is currently on the Tampa Bay Rays broadcast team. His name alone has already made him famous in Philadelphia, and Todd would immediately be a fan favorite, assuming he is even remotely like his father. Todd would keep the Kalas tradition going in Philadelphia baseball. Harry Kalas is a legend in the game of baseball, and especially this great city. What better way to honor Harry than to have his son follow in his footsteps and pick up the announcing duties where Harry has left them. This is in no way meant to disparage or insult the current Phillies broadcasters, all of whom do a very good job. Yesterday, when the news came down, all the announcers were obviously thrown into an extremely tough position, and all of them, Tom McCarthy, Chris Wheeler, Gary Matthews, Scott Franzke, and Larry Andersen did an amazing job yesterday. By adding Todd Kalas, it would not be to replace anybody on the current Phillies broadcast team, but instead it would be to welcome another member, and more importantly, continue a tradition. And what better way to continue that tradition than to bring in Todd, as a homage to the late, great Harry Kalas.
